Plant Description:

Clary sage is a stunning plant that grows up to 4 ft tall with very large downy leaves and tall spikes of pinkish-blue flowers and thick, hairy square stems. The entire plant has a very distinctive, lovely, earthy, sharp, spicy and herbaceous fragrance. The leaves, flowers and essential oil are used to flavor liqueurs, wines and vermouth. It is also widely used in perfume because of its luscious scent. Historically, the young leaves were fried in batter and eaten as a side vegetable. The old French name for this herb is toute bonne, meaning all good.

Clary sage oil is recognized as safe by the FDA for human consumption. Dilute 1 drop oil with 1 tsp. honey or in 4 oz. beverage. It is not meant for children under 6 years. Use with caution for kids over 6 years and be sure to dilute your drink even more to prevent any side effects. Following are some benefits of clary sage:
  • Clears the Eyes:

    Clary sage seeds mixed with hot water for a few minutes release a mucilage which, when strained, makes an excellent wash for sore, tired, red eyes. Its ability to clear the eyes dates back to the Middle Ages where it was nicknamed “clear eyes”.

    Clary sage essential oil is used in aromatherapy massage to promote female health.
