FAQs About Facial Threading

What is eyebrow and facial threading?

Threading is an ancient hair removal technique that has been practiced for over 5,000 years, celebrated for its precision, effectiveness, and gentleness. It is great for eyebrow shaping as well as removing hair from the cheeks, upper lip, and chin.  This technique that uses 100% cotton thread. The cotton thread is twisted and rolled along the surface of the skin entwining the hairs in the thread, which are then lifted quickly from the follicle.  Some beauticians will apply baby powder to the eyebrows before they begin. The baby powder will absorb any oils around the hair follicles that may cause the hairs to slip from the thread as it is pulled.

This technique is more precise than waxing & tweezing and many people find that this is the best way to get a great arch to their eyebrow and a clean finished look. Because threading is so effective in removing even baby fine hair, makeup goes on much smoother as well.

What are the benefits of threading?

  • Precision and Control- Threading is ideal for shaping eyebrows and removing unwanted hair with remarkable accuracy. The technique allows beauticians to target even the finest hairs, creating perfectly defined arches and a clean, polished look.
  • Gentle on Skin- Unlike waxing or other hair removal methods, threading doesn’t involve harsh chemicals, heat, or adhesives, making it an excellent choice for sensitive skin. The use of thread minimizes irritation and reduces the risk of redness or breakouts.
  • Versatile Application- Threading is not just limited to eyebrows—it’s effective for removing hair from various areas of the face, including the upper lip, cheeks, and chin. It can even tackle baby fine hair that other methods may miss.
  • Long-Lasting Results- Threading removes hair directly from the follicle, leading to longer-lasting smoothness compared to shaving or tweezing. With regular threading, hair regrowth tends to become finer and sparser over time.
  • No Harmful Chemicals- This all-natural method involves no products that could irritate the skin, making it a safe and eco-friendly option for hair removal.
  • Prevents Wrinkles: Unlike waxing, threading does not stretch or tug at the skin, preserving skin elasticity.
  • Improved Makeup Application- Threading effectively removes even the tiniest hairs, resulting in a smooth surface for makeup application. Foundation, powders, and other cosmetics glide on effortlessly for a flawless finish.
  • Quick and Efficient- Threading is a fast process that can achieve impressive results in a matter of minutes, making it a convenient option for busy individuals.
  • Generally Less Painful: Many find threading more comfortable than waxing due to its gentler technique.

Whether you're looking for a precise eyebrow shape or an effective way to remove unwanted facial hair, threading offers a timeless, natural solution with numerous benefits for your skin and appearance.

What are the origins of threading?

Threading is an ancient hair removal technique with roots in Persia, dating back over 5,000 years. Originally practiced during special occasions like weddings, it symbolized a young woman’s transition into adulthood in Persian culture. Known as Bande Abru in Persian (“Abru” means eyebrow and “Band” refers to thread), threading has been a staple beauty practice in the Middle East and South Asia. Today, it remains popular among women in Iran, Pakistan, India, Saudi Arabia, and beyond. Its precision, natural approach, and effectiveness have contributed to its growing popularity in the Western world as a preferred alternative to waxing and tweezing.

What Can You Do About Unruly Brows?

A bad brow job can be more frustrating than a bad hair day—your brows can’t be hidden! Choosing an experienced threader is crucial. A skilled threader knows how to shape brows meticulously, avoiding over-thinning or unevenness. Poor threading can lead to hair that doesn’t grow back, leaving brows permanently altered.

At our spa, brow shaping is treated as an art form. Our expert, Kaniz, brings years of experience and a keen eye for detail, ensuring your brows are not only shaped but tailored to your unique features. Whether your brows are uneven, thinned, or lack definition, Kaniz takes the time to create the perfect look for you. Her gentle touch and personalized approach make a noticeable difference, providing solutions for any brow challenges.

What areas can be threaded?

Threading can be performed on a variety of facial areas, including:

  • Eyebrows
  • Upper lip
  • Chin
  • Sideburns
  • Forehead
  • Neck

While it can technically be done on other body parts, threading is most efficient on facial areas. For a cleaner finish, threading can also be used to remove any stray hairs left after waxing.

How long does threading last?

Hair regrowth varies from person to person, but on average, threading results last about 3–4 weeks. Those with faster hair growth may require touch-ups sooner, while others may not need threading for several months.

Does Facial and eyebrows threading hurt?

Threading is often considered less painful than waxing. Clients who switch from waxing are frequently surprised at how much gentler the experience is. The skill of the threader also plays a key role. At our spa, we use gentle techniques and offer relief options, like finger pressure or warm/cool compresses, to minimize discomfort.

How do I know what brow shape is right for me?

Our team specializes in crafting brow shapes that enhance your natural features. We follow your natural brow line and take only the hair necessary to achieve a clean, defined look. If more arching is desired, it depends on the available hair to work with. Consult with our expert estheticians to find the best shape for your face.

What kind of thread is used and how is it sanitary?

We use anti-bacterial thread imported from India, Pakistan, and England. This specialized thread is designed specifically for threading and is disposed of after every use, ensuring the highest level of hygiene. Only the thread touches

your skin, and we adhere to strict sanitation practices to prevent any contamination.

Does the hair grow thicker after being threaded?

No, threading does not make hair grow back thicker. In fact, many clients find their hair grows back finer or sparser over time.

Why choose threading over tweezing or waxing?

  • Precision & Efficiency: Threading removes rows of hair, including fine strands, for a clean, polished look.
  • Gentle on Skin: Unlike waxing, threading doesn’t pull or damage the skin, making it ideal for sensitive areas.
  • No Length Requirement: Removes even the shortest hairs that waxing can’t.
  • Long-Lasting Results: Hair regrows finer and slower over time.
  • Natural & Safe: No chemicals, creams, or allergens—perfect for sensitive skin or those using Retin-A or Accutane.
  • Wrinkle Prevention: No tugging or pulling, preserving skin elasticity.

Threading is the ultimate choice for precise, natural, and skin-friendly hair removal.
